Why anti-tarnish
"Anti-tarnish" gets used loosely. Here is what it means on our pieces, and what it does not.
The problem
Tarnish is a reaction between the metal and the air, sweat and cosmetics it meets. On thinly plated jewellery the plating wears through in weeks and the base metal underneath reacts — which is the green mark on your skin.
What we do about it
Our pieces are built to slow that reaction down rather than hide it.
- A thicker gold layer than standard fashion plating, so there is more to wear through.
- A barrier layer between the base metal and the gold, which is what stops the discolouration.
- A protective top coat that resists water, sweat and everyday handling.
- Nickel-free throughout, because nickel is the usual cause of irritation.
What still shortens its life
No plating is permanent. Perfume, hairspray, chlorine, salt water and abrasive cleaners all attack it. Put jewellery on last when getting ready, take it off before swimming, and store it dry.
